Millwall goalkeeper Ryan Sandford joins Maidstone United on short-term loan

Millwall has confirmed the temporary departure of goalkeeper Ryan Sandford, who has partnered with NHL southern club Maidstone United.

Sandford, 22, is leaving Millwall on a short-term contract as he looks to make his way to The Den’s first-team action.

Despite the closure of the transfer window, EFL clubs are still allowed to offload players to non-league teams as teams outside the Football League are allowed to do business outside the window. .

This gives teams the opportunity to send young players on loan to give them senior experience, which is exactly what Millwall did with Ryan Sandford.

As announced on the club’s official website, the academy goalkeeper has joined Maidstone United on a temporary contract.

Sandford, who has previously spent time on loan with Dorking Wanderers, is joining a 28-day deal and could make his debut as early as Saturday afternoon. The Stones welcome Slough Town to the National League South.

As Sandford tries to win the first-team action away from The Den, Gary Rowett’s side will be looking for two straight wins against Derby County.

The Lions are in 9th place and could advance to the play-offs with a win over the Rams’ Wayne Rooney.

As for Derby, their 12 point deduction means they are still at the bottom of the championship. Considering the circumstances at Pride Park, the Rams had off to a decent enough start to the season, but they are now six games away from a win and are tied after back-to-back losses.
