TEXARKANA, Ark. – A proposed project to beautify the exterior of the local Amtrak station received enough votes online to become a quarter-finalist in a competition with a cash prize.
Sponsored by Class of 2022 of Leadership Texarkana, a local personal development organization, the project is one of 25 remaining in America’s Main Streets Road to Recovery competition. The most votes will ultimately win $ 25,000 and a host of other prizes.
Voting on MainStreetContest.com continues until December 12 and the winner will be announced on December 20. More than 200 entrants started the contest and entrants cast more than 494,000 votes in the first round, according to a press release.
The Texarkana Leadership Project team includes Jennifer Smith, John Moran, Justin Copeland, Toni Braley, Del Doughty, Val De La Garza, Vashil Fernandez and Wendy Stotts.

Texarkana has been successful in raising funds this way in the past. He built two dog parks and repainted the downtown area through contests that required residents to vote online.
